We put a microphone in front of crew and fired these questions at them?
We asked our crew a few questions so you could get to know them. Here are their answers.
Your two favourite Sci Fi shows and why you like them?
Star Trek, because for as long as I can remember I have been watching it. It was my first look into the world of Science Fiction, and made me the geek that I am today. It may also seem strange, but Star Trek also taught me a lot about how I live my life today. Gene Roddenberry was an inspiration to millions with his ideas about a future where everyone is equal and there is no war or hunger. I am one in amongst those millions.
Firefly, because although it was only able to air for one season, it is by far Joss Whedon’s greatest creation to date, with an unbeatable cast, gripping plot, and scripts that have the perfect balance of sci-fi, romance, horror, and comedy. It didn’t do too badly on the big screen, either ;-)
Favourite Sci-Fi Character
After much mental debate, I have come to the conclusion that selecting one character from the probably hundreds of characters that I adore would be a ludicrously long, if not impossible task. I will therefore have to take a rain-cheque on this question, since it would most definitely take a millennia to attempt it, let alone succeed.
Tell us a little about past work, places you worked at.
Well, as it stands, working with Area 51 Radio Station is my first real work within the industry. I have been a writer for as long as I can remember, but I have never been published until now. Reviewing is a passion of mine, and it has always been a hobby, and I am just very pleased to be finally sharing that passion with others, and recommending the things that I love (or warding away from the things that I don’t) to my fellow fans.
The funniest, strangest thing that ever happened to you in past work
Hm… That is a hard one! I attend so many Conventions, now, that you wouldn’t be surprised that I have had a few… Interesting encounters.
Probably the two most memorable for me, though, would be from Comic Conventions.
In the first, I found myself fundraising for Children In Need in 2005, marching around Central London in Starfleet Uniform. The next day, I meet Mark Miller, the powerful mind behind some of my favourite comic book stories. I shake his hand, and he asks me if he has met me before, because I apparently look familiar. Well, obviously I say no, but then he asks why wasn’t I at the bar the previous night, having a laugh with him and the rest of the Guests, and I tell him of my CiN efforts. He laughs, and tells me that not only am I completely and utterly insane walking around in a dress that small (Mr Miller I found to be quite a Trekkie), but he also said that I was (and I quote) cool! That was a definite fangirl moment for me.
The second would be spending a small (I wish that it had been longer, but alas…) segment of my evening with Tony Lee, a simply astonishing Markosia writer and writer. Being the fun guy that he is, Tony spent the evening at the Eagle Awards, a ceremony for the comic book industry, and then proceeded to venture towards the bar for some social drinking. I was not there for most of that, but when I saw Tony, I had on my person a large segment of bubble wrap (don’t ask me how, I don’t remember), which Tony insisted that I give him. We then spent the next twenty minutes dressing Tony in the sheet, whilst he posed in various odd ways, my personal favourite being when the bubble wrap transformed into a cape, and Tony became Super Tony. What an evening! There aren’t many who could say that they wrapped Tony Lee in bubble wrap.
Your most exciting presenting or writing experience?
Again, I would like to point out the fact that I have not been writing ‘professionally’, as it were, until recently. I have been completely unpublished. I can therefore be completely and utterly corny and say that the most exciting writing experience to date was spending hours writing my first set of Reviews for the Station, and waiting patiently for the website update, and feedback.
Anything you'd like listeners to email you about?
If there is anything that anyone would like me to review, they should really let me know. I am usually up for just about anything, be it a game, comic, book, cinema release, DVD, or Convention, so anyone can feel free to drop me a line. Also, feedback on my reviews is very much welcome, since I am always looking to improve for the benefit of the readers.
